#10 – Article “Hilfe aus dem All” features ReHIKE in the magazine DAV Panorama

In November 2025, the new issue 4/2025 of the magazine DAV Panorama presented the article “Hilfe aus dem All” (“Support from space”). It explains the ReHIKE project to the readers of DAV Panorama, which are the members of DAV and to officials active in the DAV sections. More information is available on LinkedIn (Link).

#9 – ReHIKE contributed to the exhibition „All:täglich!“ at Haus der Natur, Salzburg

In October 2025, the special exhibition „All:täglich!“ at Haus der Natur, Salzburg, started. Our partners at University of Salzburg contributed content from ReHIKE to the exhibition, among them visualisations of Earth observations data about glacier retreat. More information is available on LinkedIn (Link).

#8 – New DAV Video featuring ReHIKE

In September 2025, ReHIKE was featured in the video “Was passiert, wenn der Berg bröckelt? Klimawandelfolgen in den Alpen” (Link) was published by Deutscher Alpenverein e.V.. The video team joined the ReHIKE User Field Trip for documentation and integrated the material in their video. More information has been posted on LinkedIn (Link).

#7 – Interview about ReHIKE as part of broadcast on the radio station Deutschlandfunk

In September 2025, ReHIKE was featured on Deutschlandfunk in the broadcast “Neue Risiken für Bergsteiger: Der Klimawandel verändert den Alpintourismus” (Link) that included an interview with Daniel Hölbling of the University of Salzburg. More information is available on LinkedIn (Link).

#6 – ReHIKE presented at the IMC 2025 conference

In September 2025, we participated at the International Mountain Conference IMC at the University of Innsbruck. The ReHIKE team presented our Earth observation-based approach to glacier retreat impact mapping in a talk (Link 1), and showed mapping of slope instabilities (Link 2) and of glacier foreland features (Link 3) in two posters. More information is available on LinkedIn (Link 4).

#5 – Field Trip to Neue Prager Hütte

In July 2025, our User Field Trip, organized by the German Alpine Association (DAV), took place and led us to Neue Prager Hütte at Großvenediger. The ReHIKE team was joined by local trail construction workers and members of the national park administration. Additional participants were researchers from other projects of DAV that focused on Neue Prager Hütte and its surrounding area. The field trip sessions happened at various locations along the path to the hut and on to the lower glacier margin. We presented the problem context of glacier retreat and its impact on mountain sports to the participants and discussed first mapping results with the users. Further, a workshop at the hut enabled exchange between the participating research projects. In addition, it was possible to verify the mapping results with our observations in the field.

#4 – Presentation of ReHIKE at the AGIT Conference in Salzburg

In July 2025, we participated at the AGIT conference to present the results of our user requirements analysis. Our online map (https://tinyurl.com/ReHike) shows the locations and descriptions of all hot spots that our local experts contributed during the workshop. In November 2024, the article "Blick von oben sichert alpine Wege" ("View from above secures alpine trails") appeared in the newspaper Die Presse. The article describes the potential of Earth observation to assess the impacts of climate change-induced glacier retreat, landscape changes in the glacier forefield, the increasing risk of landslides and rockfalls, and the associated impacts on alpine infrastructure. The article also appeared in the online edition of Die Presse (Link). Further information can also be found on LinkedIn (Link).
