As part of the RIVA RISK AND VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT project, the CEO Hubert Schöndorfer visited the Kinderdorf in Managua and Leon in Nicaragua together with two SOS Kinderdorf employees from Austria. The purpose of the trip was the collection of data in and around the Kinderdorf, in order to be better prepared in anevent of a natural disaster – in this case primarily earthquakes.

The main objectives of this pilot project are

  • reducing the risk to the children and workers in the village
  • faster and more efficient emergency measures needed
  • to anticipate the needs of the local population in emergencies with known risks and weaknesses
  • From another six children’s villages around the world, relevant data are still being collected by the end of the year.
